The Christian walk is all about claiming
“In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus” (New International Version 1984, Romans 6:11).
“Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord” (King James Version 1900, Romans 6:11).
OJPM has received another generous matching gift challenge of $50,000 from the JASCO Giving Hope Foundation (JGHF)!
The Trice family and JASCO employees are graciously sharing the blessings they have received in a way that will challenge us to be able to do more in reaching the men, women and youth in county jails across our state with the gospel of hope.
I don’t find “matching” in the Bible, but I see this matching challenge as a matter of claiming a promise. Of course, you can find claiming promises in the Bible from the first chapter where God made a covenant with Adam to the last chapter where the author of Revelation cried “come, Lord Jesus!”
God’s grace is freely given, not earned. But there is the biblical concept of claiming. Claiming a promise of God. You claim forgiveness. You claim your identity in Christ. You claim the hope of the resurrection. This comes through confession. You find a promise of God and you agree with Him on it. You take action!
One of my regular claiming verses is Romans 6:11. Having grown up on the KJV, my spirit resonates with the word “reckon.” The Bible uses many words to communicate this idea of claiming the work of Christ for our daily life: stand, hold, walk, reckon and count are just a few.
When I mention “claiming,” some of you will think about your taxes. After all, it is only two months to April 15th. I believe in claiming all the promises that the I.R.S gives. Considering the eternal matters that we deal with through our OJPM ministry, claiming this matching gift will have much more significant value.
JGHF has awarded OJPM a $50,000 matching grant. For every new dollar that OJPM receives in 2021, JGHF will match one dollar up to $50,000.
This means that if an existing donor increases his or her monthly donation from $50 to $75, JGHF will match the $25 monthly increase with $25 a month, thus doubling the increased giving.
If a friend of OJPM who has not given to our ministry prayerfully decides to donate $1,000, JGHF will match that donation with $1,000. Whether an existing donor gives extra (over and above what they have given in 2019 or 2020) or a new donor gives initially, any new dollar will be matched.
Please pray about joining with OJPM in claiming this generous matching gift from JASCO for 2021.
Is it important to the mission of OJPM? I reckon so!
